Welcome, and thank you for visiting Luma Coaching!
My name is Jodi Flynn and I am a leadership coach based in southern Maine. I work with business leaders, small business owners and corporate executives, on the soft skills: self-management, communication, relationships and mindset.
Though I do work in person with some local clients the majority of my work is done over the phone, via Skype or Google Hangout.
You don’t have to be in Maine for us to work well together. In fact, many of my clients appreciate being coached from the comfort of their home or office – no travel time necessary.
Here’s a little bit more you should know about me…
I Am Truly Blessed
I know I am blessed and it’s because of the work you and I do together. It’s also because of the life my work has allowed me to create for myself.
Coaching isn’t just my livelihood. It’s my passion, and what allows me to live my purpose. It’s when I feel most powerful – most able to make a difference. It is an honor and a privilege to do this work.
My greatest satisfaction is when you feel that you are blessed too!
What I Know for Sure
There are three things that will make all the difference to you in your professional and personal life. How do I know them? Because they have made the difference in my life and the lives of my clients. They inform all the work I do.
1. Relationships
The keys to your kingdom are hanging on the hook labeled Relationships.
Whether it’s identifying the problems you’re encountering at home or in the office or the solutions to those problems, look to your relationships – first and f
oremost the one with yourself and then the ones with others.
I learned a thing or two about relationships growing up as one of eight children. My early fascination with the dynamics around our crowded kitchen table led me to obtain a B.A. and then pursue a Master’s degree in psychology. I am still utterly and completely intrigued by what makes us humans tick.
2. Success
You can create success (no matter how you define success) without the stress and drama and hoopla that usually accompany success. Confusion, overwhelm, frustration – they do not need to be part of your success story. Success is actually much simpler than you think.
My parents gave me a foundation for success, but I taught myself to pursue success in a very active, engaged, conscious way. And that made all the difference. I learned how to look for and create opportunities. I learned not to settle. I discovered that if I don’t like my now, I’m not stuck with it. I can look for ways to change it.
I learned all this the hard way. I was an extremely shy child who held back all the time because I was so afraid of drawing attention to myself. I even taught myself to breathe so quietly that no one would notice me! I became an observer of life instead of a participant.
This worked okay for me right up until the day it didn’t.
Suddenly, my friend who had always been my safety net up until that point pushed me out of the nest with no warning. I went ice-cold with shock at first. Then I felt lost, scared, and bereft. I burned with embarrassment, shame, and betrayal. All those feelings hardened into a painful knot in my solar plexus.
That day was a turning point for me. My horrible experience became the seeds of my salvation.
I made a very conscious decision that day. I decided I would no longer allow my shyness to hold me back. I was going to do what I needed to do to pursue success.
I made a choice to step out of the shadows and begin to experience life, even if it was scary and uncomfortable.
My pursuit of success led to an under-graduate and graduate education in psychology. I then embarked on a 10-year fast track corporate career in the financial services industry where I was promoted five times in five and a half years despite promotion freezes.
And then I discovered coaching.
I successfully completed a rigorous coach training program with the highly respected Institute of Professional Excellence in Coaching (IPEC). Today, I am the owner of a successful business and executive coaching practice that has flourished despite a challenging economy and an increasingly competitive marketplace.
Today I know nothing can stop me but me.
3. Mindset
It’s hard to believe that I was ever that shy little girl who hardly dared to breathe. What allowed me to change? What made the difference in my life?
I mastered my mindset.
That’s the only thing you need to do to create the work and the life for which you yearn. Master your mindset.
Now I’m not saying that becoming aware of and mastering your assumptions, attitudes, thoughts, and beliefs is easy. It isn’t. But once you do, you are that much closer to making the vision for your life come true.
My eight most favorite words in the English language are, “I never thought of it that way before.”
Ah ha! You’ve had a mindset shift. We’re off to the races! There’s nothing we can’t figure out, solve, or create!
Three Wishes
There are three things I wish for you in our work together –
- To gain focus, clarity, and confidence about the work you do (and then experience loads of fun doing your work, because life is too short not to have fun!),
- To be appreciated and rewarded well for your talents, skills, and contributions both professionally and personally, and
- For you to be awed and inspired by your own greatness.
